Intro to Physical Comp

Final - VeinSight

Project Description:

Veinsight consists of a ring and cuff that transform the wearer's heartbeat into a visual rhythm of pulsing LED lights. The wearable piece explores the metaphor of "wearing one's heart on their sleeve," reimagining it through technology to create a tangible manifestation of our internal states.

The wearable piece investigates the body's role as an honest messenger of our emotional world. While we often struggle to articulate our feelings verbally, our physiological responses—particularly our heartbeat—reveal what we might not yet understand or be ready to express. In moments of connection, attraction, or vulnerability, our pulse quickens before our conscious mind processes these feelings.

By making the heartbeat visible, this piece creates an intimate dialogue between the wearer's internal state and the external world. The synchronized LED lights serve as a bridge between the private and public self, encouraging a reflection on emotional vulnerability and the ways we choose to reveal or conceal our true feelings in relationships.

What does it do?

This wearable piece consists of a pulse sensor ring paired with a cuff. It operates in three sequential states, each with distinct visual feedback: sensor detection (yellow LED indicator), threshold calibration (orange LED indicator), and active BPM monitoring (red LED pulsing in both ring and cuff). During calibration, the system determines optimal signal thresholds specific to each user's pulse, which then drives the pulsing LED lights.
