WEEK 3
Soft Cable Pull Object in Real Life
Horizontal Blinds
Description: Horizontal blinds (p.1) is one of the most common blinds that we encounter in our lives, and I can open and close the blinds by pulling the soft cords from the left or right. At the same time, I can adjust each individual louver by twisting the plastic rod.
How it Works: the horizontal blind usually has two or three strings attach to the blinds from the top to the bottom, and they are fixed at the bottom of the blind. By pulling both strings at the same time from top to bottom, the blind will go up, and vice versa. After pulling, I can slide the strings away or towards the blinds to lock and unlock the position of the blinds. The mechanism for me to archieve all its functions is called cord lock (p.2). The cord lock consists with two rollers, one that is big and fixed, as well as one that is small, textured, and being able to slide up and down. The strings go over both rollers and as we pulling the strings, the small rollers go up and down. When we silde the strings to the side, the small roller will be stuck or release from the socket of the cord lock, allowing it the whole blind to stay in postion.
