WEEK 4
Reading Response on “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” By Walter Benjamin
As technology advances, automation and industrialization make photography and art more accessible. More people can realize their creative visions without spending years mastering technical skills. This democratization of art allows for greater self-expression and innovation. However, rather than diminishing the value of true artists, it enhances their uniqueness.
Machines can replicate techniques, but they cannot replace the artist’s hand, intuition, and personal touch. The imperfections, textures, and intentional details created by skilled hands are irreplaceable. Walter Benjamin argues that mechanical reproduction strips art of its “aura,” but I believe it also elevates the artist’s role. Automated art highlights the irreplaceable nature of true craftsmanship, making the presence of the artist more valuable than ever. In a world where anyone can create, those who dedicate themselves to refining their skills stand out even more. Their talent, effort, and authenticity shine through, proving that art is not just about the final product, but also about the human essence embedded within it.
